Self-Sufficiency Program Partners

Neighborhood Networks Learning Centers

Neighborhood Networks Home

RIHA was designated as a Neighborhood Networks Learning Center in 2007 when it established four computer labs within the City of Rock Island. Lab locations include Spencer Towers, Sunset Heights, Manor Homes and the Martin Luther King Community Center serving both Lincoln Homes and the community at large. Since then the labs have assisted 447 individuals in their journey toward self-sufficiency.

The labs offer computer and Internet access, customized computer training and certification, and communications, educational and information-sharing tools to an otherwise underserved population. The labs provide an opportunity for people who have never been exposed to technology to experience it in a non-threatening and safe environment. The RIHA Neighborhood Networks Learning Centers and related training have resulted in employment and job training opportunities and represents many positive partnerships with local community-based organizations.

RIHA: First Public Housing Authority to Receive Neighborhood Networks Model Status
In 2010, RIHA was recognized as the first Public Housing Authority to receive Neighborhood Networks Model Status conveying national recognition by HUD. Having advanced through all three classifications - Designated, Certified and Model - RIHA plays a pivotal role as a quality resource for residents and the community and provide residents skills and training critical to their success in today's competitive job market and in life.
